2歲的楊姓男童在家不肯吃飯，一直比牙齒說痛，就醫檢查後，發現男童右邊下排小臼齒出現小蛀洞，治療後即痊癒，同時提醒媽媽要每天幫孩子刷牙、定期帶至牙科檢查，防止嚴重齲齒導致拔牙。媽媽卻向醫師表示，幼童的乳牙以後會換成恆牙？拔掉不就好了，為何需要治療？

收治患者的童綜合醫院兒童牙科醫師陳瑋玲表示，乳牙的健康會影響孩子的生長發育及恆牙的排列、咀嚼、發音及美觀。台灣孩子口腔近八成患有齲齒；齲齒治療，蛀洞小者疼痛、大者侵犯至牙髓，造成發炎、膿瘍、蜂窩性組織炎等等症狀。乳牙齒列從六足歲開始自下顎乳前牙依序更換成恆牙，換牙時期約為五年，換至後牙乳臼齒約為十一足歲。

陳瑋玲指出，若乳牙嚴重齲齒提早拔除或崩壞，易影響正常恆牙換牙順序，造成恆牙傾倒、甚至恆牙無法萌發；因此，定期至兒童牙醫檢查，提早發現乳牙齲齒是必要的。

齲齒治療依齲齒程度可用樹脂填補，或使用牙套恢復咀嚼功能以及外觀。在齲齒程度超過牙齒雙面以上、根管治療後，僅用樹脂填補，並無法承擔咬合力至換牙期，因此建議使用牙套復型。

牙套分為常用的不鏽鋼牙套以及全瓷牙套，不鏽鋼牙套耐用安全、具一定彈性且磨製臨床技巧快速，唯缺點為牙套呈金屬銀色，家長與其他照護者可能擔心孩子口內美觀受到影響。

全瓷牙套修正了不鏽鋼牙套的缺點，使齲齒恢復如同原本乳牙齒列般潔白的外貌，加上全瓷牙套無論是在硬度上能承受咬合力、生物相容性也良好易使牙齦保持健康；但全瓷乳牙牙套所需磨製技巧較高、因此造價較不鏽鋼牙套昂貴。

陳瑋玲呼籲，牙齒保健從生活、飲食、清潔習慣上改變，讓齲齒危險因子自孩子生活中慢慢遠離，自然減低孩子看牙與治療過程中的焦慮，並長久地維持良好口腔健康。
